Beta Brain - Your Search Data Is Now Downloadable

Ok, so Google now will let you export your Google search history. There is nothing more revealing about you than your search history – except, maybe, for those pictures of you naked that were shared in SnapChat.

The compilation of your keywords can quickly paint a picture of your life: what illnesses have you suffered, are you planning on getting a divorce, are you looking to move, and what are your shopping habits. I bet you never wonder what you were searching for 5 years ago but, if you did, Google could probably tell you. Unless you have disabled your search history, every single search you’ve done while being logged into your Google account is stored in Google’s servers. We all love “free” stuff but it comes at a price and the collection of data is part of that price.

There is not much you can do with your search history but if you still want to download it you can visit https://history.google.com. Remember not to download your file on a public computer, don’t lose track of your file once you have it and protect your Google account with 2-step verification so that nobody else can download your search history.

If you are having nightmares about seeing every dumb thing you‘ve ever typed into Google or, even worse, of someone else seeing it, you can also delete your search history. On the Web history page where you can download the archive you have the option to “Remove items” instead. You can read the instructions on how to do it here.
